How often do you lie awake at night thinking all the possibilities of your life?
What dreams you have?
What right and wrong things happened in your life ?
What lies ahead and what has passed?
Personally, for me, the thoughts that wander at night are the most closest to your heart. They are crystal clear. They are the images of your truest self.
This is a Free verse poem extending the chant of your night-time thoughts. The poem is titled “Wisdom of the Night Owl” as nothing better than the bird who is considered wise and doesn’t sleep at night, just like your thoughts which help you to know yourself better and doesn’t let you sleep.
Rest I leave it to your interpretation.
Hope you enjoy it!
Staring at the ceiling
the swirl of the fan went smoothly,
just like her thoughts.
Thoughts as transparent as water,
which ran deep into the black-hole of her soul, her heart.
They were like Mirrors,
reflecting all her dreams,
all her regrets,
reflecting her past-self,
reflecting what she has become today.
They move along
stronger with every passing yawn
stronger than all the thoughts of the day time.
Stepping from the first to second,
just like the hand of the clock.
Their span, though short, run deep and long.
They tell her to dig deep the dirt,
eventually to find the hidden fortune,
the golden city of desires.
Well, that is the beauty of night-time thoughts,
they pour the divine light
on the face of you and your life
Albeit, the blackness of the darkest hour of the night.
The beauty of the night-time thoughts,
the silence which awakens all your senses.

Everyone knows why we celebrate Diwali and worship Goddess Laxmi. The festival of prosperity and wealth, of new beginnings and success. But, for me Diwali is completely different. Lets take a look on the other page of this beautiful lighting festival.
The house of all the bugs and insects living happily in our homes are in danger.
Old books, report cards, childhood (creepy, but cute) photos, basically memories fly with the dust in the air. Just to be with us for a little longer.
Suddenly all the furniture & curtains gets more attention than Us.
“What should we get this year?” becomes the most important discussion of the Month!
Your room suddenly appears to be some strange land, because its CLEAN and everything is at its place.
Don’t forget just a few days before the festival you wake up with the appetizing smell of sweets and snacks, filling the whole house.
The enthusiasm of buying the best of the best firecrackers.
The new dresses, excitement of Laxmi pooja and don’t forget the long drives around the city, decorated with lights and creativity, to welcome all the happiness and opulence in the lives of the residents.
P.S : It is a “Swacch Bharat Abhyan” on a small level to greet the wealth and success with open arms.
For me Diwali brings smiles, the wait and the fun which starts a month before the day of the festival. It teaches me to keep my surroundings clean, because prosperity comes to those who not only works hard to receive it, but also wants to sustain it in a beautiful environment. Respect the returns (wealth, success and achievements) with all your heart and gratitude.
Learn everything before raising your voice. Share your opinion, but don’t expect everyone to tag along with you. You will be questioned, you will be humiliated or you may get appreciation. Stand what you believe for,but don’t try to impose it on others.
The poem is an attempt to blend creativity with a message. Very few know the importance of balancing life between routine and adventure, tradition and modernity, and of course choosing the right people and right deeds.”A letter to self” is a reminder that only you hold the power to shape your life. It is a reminder to ‘know’ what you are and what you can become as a person.

the past, the present & the future.
What are you?
What made you?
What you will be?
Are all but questions
whose answers you plea.
“Know when to change, know when to speak
& know when to fill the blank with a *beep*
Judge through the mirror of self
not through those who are mentally dumb & deaf.
Know what to learn,
Know what to let go & what to keep.
Keep those who ‘do’ rather just speak.
Gather strength, gather focus & will,
skip the routine and grill the thrill.
Know whom to love, know not to hate.
Walk, not alone, but lead all on the success you pave.
Know whom to respect,
respect know no age,
release the mind off, of the conventional cage.
Know nothing but virtues,
know the good & the right.
Life is a journey,
not a single destination flight.”
What you are?
What you will be?
the past, the present, the future Me
Dream large & deep like the sea,
you are & were meant to be,
A spirit left to wander
loose & free!
